Issues to watch
Inflation
Inflation has been at levels not seen since the Reagan years and it has many consumers and businesses worried that a recession is near. For state and local governments, inflation has been a double-edged sword: it has driven near-record revenue increases but it also means increased pressure on the spending side.
What to watch:
Continued salary increase demands from public sector workers.
Adjusting scopes on construction projects due to rising costs.

Federal Funding Watch
Impact Evaluation of the Emergency Rental Assistance Program
Open: Now until Aug. 25
Who’s eligible: State and local governments, nonprofits, small business, tribes, public/private higher ed, housing authorities
Award range: $250,000 to $1 million

Funds rigorous evaluations of the impact of the Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) Program on housing stability outcomes. HUD’s primary outcome of interest is eviction, but applicants can propose other housing stability measures.
